This particular project took a little longer than expected. Though I used paint samples vs. usual mediums like pencil or paint. I think overall my portrait turned out okay, If I had to do it over I would focus more of my attention on the eyes and mouth, as well as smaller details like shading and precision of the samples. When working on this project i found that different ways to achieve the final piece, different methods of cutting and pasting onto my cardboard canvas, as a part of my artistic process ti worked out for me to have used paint samples, as opposed to drawing.
Surrealism
During these first few weeks of school I haven't really grown as an artist, we haven't done much to explore new topics or mediums. With freedom we are free to use more and play with our ideas, but inspiration needs to be sparked. With this piece I put butterfly wings on a skeleton to represent, beauty and ugliness can coexist. Every person contains good and bad and their actions dictate which way the scale tips. Beauty can reside in a person, and death and ugliness can also be discovered deep down. This piece was really simple and if I had to do it over again, I would add more detail to the background, but would leave the butterfly wings to be the only color. The light in the darkness.
